Community Organizing
United Concerned Citizens is a coalition of
parents and students working together (intergenerational model) (in Montgomery,
Grenada, and Webster counties) in doing basic community organizing work to
enhance civic participation. We do this by training community in effective
community organizing skills which includes holding public officials accountable,
educating ourselves about current laws and policies and engaging in leadership
development activities, environmental and human/immigrant rights injustices,
educational issues, and collaborating with other social justice community-based,
statewide, regional and national organizations to resolve these problems. This
is also an area of work that allows community people to develop strategies
around changing the culture of racism.
